Biographical Profile My name is Marirose Tan. I am a History major with a Catholic Studies minor. I have a concentration in Political Science and a focus in Social and Behavioral Sciences upon successful completion of 25 Secondary Education credit hours. I received my Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND in April 2017. I was born and raised in Waukegan, IL. I am third child of six children. As I was growing up as a homeschooler, I became interested in history because of the way I was taught. Supplementary sources, especially church historical fiction, were added to the textbooks and made history "come alive for me," so to speak. Because of this, I gained a love for history. After I graduated high school, I went to continue my education at the University of Mary. There I have grown in my knowledge of teaching, knowledge of my content area, and self-knowledge. I have made friendships and connections that will last me a lifetime. After graduation, I take not only my experiences and knowledge with me, but I also take and practice the Benedictine values in my everyday life. These Benedictine values are the following: respect for persons, hospitality, service, moderation, prayer, and community.
Personal Interests
I enjoy meeting new people and working with students of any age. There is something fulfilling in working for and with others. Spending time with my family and friends is one of my favorite ways to spend my free time. Some of the things I enjoy the most with my family and friends are to play games and sports, make music, watch movies, and dancing. Music has always been a part of my life. I play three different instruments: piano, guitar, and recorder. I also love to sing. Ever since I was little, I remember singing, listening to music, and making music everyday. I like crocheting and doing arts & crafts. As I was growing up, I would save things that could be recycled and use them for new purposes. For example, I would save scrap paper and turn them into greeting cards with the help of tape/glue and calligraphy. Lastly, I enjoy reading, especially historical fiction. One of my childhood memories is going to the local public library every week with my siblings. We would pick out some books and take turns reading each others' books.
